My name is Amber Joy Young, and my pronouns are she/her. I am very grateful that your path has led you here.
Welcome!
My first exploration of yoga was as a young girl, when I stumbled upon a yoga book at a second hand store. In that moment I truly felt my first deep breath, knowing deep inside this was my path home to myself. Since that time yoga, meditation, song and somatic practices have been an anchor in my life.
In November of 2018 I began Surya Daya, the evolution of a local yoga studio, which was a labour of love and an opportunity for growth. In 2020, I stepped forward into my personal work and continue to offer yoga (virtually and in person), somatic movement, sound healing, and massage.

It’s my intention to bring a heart centered wisdom to this work; honouring the land and our ancestors, while infusing the teachings with joy, laughter and appreciation. I count my blessings every day to be alive after my own journey with cancer, committing deeper to my path in service to life and offering compassion where it is most needed.
I continue to be an avid student and over the years I have been exploring and studying many different disciplines ( advanced restorative, kundalini, Integral yoga, hidden language, vipassana, mindfulness, Buddhist practices, shamanism, the divine feminine and the work that reconnects). In 2014 I completed the Mindfulness Based Stress Management program, and in 2016 I became certified as a 200 Hr Yoga Teacher (under the amazing guidance of Devinder Kaur). Recently, in the fall of 2024, I completed the Accessible Yoga Training (J Heyman).
With a strong anatomical background, I have been practicing as a Registered Massage Therapist and Craniosacral Therapist since 2004, with a special emphasis on working with folks with cancer (through diagnosis, treatment and beyond) complex care, end of life care, breast massage, scar tissue, chronic illness, trauma in the body, and the mind body connection. I also completed my hospice volunteer training certification in BC and Ontario.
In 2007 I started teaching breast health workshops and completed the Mammalive 12 week Healthy breast program in 2020 to deepen this work.
In 2023 I dove into a deep personal exploration of sound vibration and how it supports us as we heal. This profound experience led me to complete a sound therapy certification with Zacciah Blackburn and Dorothy Stone. I am deeply moved by the ways sound can inform, amplify and support the healing process. Born from clear intentions we create together, I often weave sound therapy into massage sessions and yoga classes.
I enjoy the balance of my vocation and make non-negotiable time for my personal practice, walking slowly in the forest, making music with my family, watching the birds, and painting bees and flowers. Living life with an autoimmune disorder and a blood cancer has given me a deep respect for the human body, the strength of spirit, the importance of community, and the fragility of life.
It is my hopes that we can all find support to explore healing and what that even means for each of us.
With a deep respect for all of life, and the safe spaces where we can put ourselves back together again.
